Knowing how many you need may be difficult to figure out. Since there are so many sizes and options, it’s easy to wonder how many uses each one may get. Most porta potties typically can contain about 150-200 uses per capacity. Not sure how many that people that can service? Well most construction companies follow the rule, 1 porta potty for 10 workers in a 40-hour week. If you are looking at them for an event, there is a guideline there too. Its 1 porta potty for every 50 guests per 1-4 hours. If you have a 5-10 hour, that number jumps to 2-3 per 50 people. If alcohol is involved, its more than likely people will be using the restroom more than usual, so you want to add 15 to 20% more porta potties. Also, you want to make sure you have some handicap porta potties available as well. It is recommended to have 1 handicap for every 4 porta potties. If you are still having trouble, you can contact any porta potty rental service, and they will be able to help you estimate how many you will need.

Will I need sinks?

If you have a basic porta potty and do not have any means of sanitation, you want to also look into sink rentals. Sinks will help prevent your event goers from spreading germs, bacteria, and viruses. Last thing you want is to have everyone catching the same illness. It is recommended that for every 4 porta potties, that you get 1 sink. This may help you and your guests stay healthy and happy.

Know what you are looking for, get multiple quotes.

The first thing you should do when you are looking for a porta potty company is to know what your basic needs are and find different companies and see what they have to offer. You want to make sure, your porta potties come with the options at a fair price. For example, company “A” may be offering a basic porta potty 10 dollars cheaper than company “B”, but with company “B” they could have hand sanitizer standard. If you want hand sanitizer with company “A” their service charge is 15 dollars per porta potty. So, company “B” will be the cheaper option. It is important to know what you’re looking for and to shop around. Porta potty companies have different standard options in each porta potty. You may find what you are looking for without having to add on multiple options.

You found your company.

Once you find your company, they will have questions for you to ensure they can offer you what you need. They may ask questions like

  • What porta potty are you looking for?
  • When will you need it?
  • How many are you looking for?
  • What is it for?
  • How long are you renting for?
  • Will there be alcohol?

Some of these questions may seem odd, but they are asked so they can come up with the best servicing plan. Events with alcohol, may fill up a porta potty faster than an event with the same amount of people and no alcohol.

Once you have everything settled, the company will deliver your porta potties and set them up for you. After they are set up the company will leave, and you and your guests are able to use them.

Depending on the schedule, the porta potty company will come out typically once a week, but this can depend on its usage. They will come out to service the porta potties. This will consist of cleaning out the waste, washing the porta potties with water and soap, and refilling it with the blue sanitation/deodorizing liquid you typically see. If you need the porta potty serviced at an earlier date, you may contact the company. Typically, they would prefer a 24-hour notice, so keep in mind, if they are getting filled up faster than you thought, schedule an appointment.

After the event or job is finished, the rental company will come back with the same trucks when they dropped off the porta potties and pick them up.
